The SDSU Chinese Cultural Center invites audiences to explore the remarkable yet little-known story of Wan-go Weng, a Chinese filmmaker who devoted much of his life to documenting his homeland. In 1938, following the Japanese invasion of China, Weng left his country to study in the United States, where he later pursued a career in filmmaking. Over four decades in America, he created dozens of documentary films centered on China, preserving his connection to his homeland through the camera. The documentary I Will Be There After My Wandering tells the poignant story of an exile whose films became a lifelong cinematic letter home, revealing the enduring ties between identity, memory, and cultural heritage.
