The art form of Chinese traditional painting has over a thousand years history. Meet artist Mr. Li and get an exotic art experience with brushes or rice paper. This monthly culture workshop is open to the SDUS community. The painting materials are provided by CCC.
The CCC is excited to host a cooking workshop where attendees can learn to make vegan spring rolls using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We offer a variety of fillings and sauces to cater to different tastes and dietary needs.
On February 17, CCC will celebrate the Lantern Festival, a Chinese traditional festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar calendar during the full moon. It marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance. Traditional desserts and tea provided courtesy of SDSUCCC team.

Dr. Shu Chien has made tremendous contributions in bioengineering, especially in cellular, molecular, and cardiovascular bioengineering and related fields. His contributions in fundamental and applied bioengineering sciences are epochal and long lasting.
Dr. Chien's career began at Columbia University in 1954, focusing on the properties of blood viiscosity. In 1988, he moved to the University of California, San Diego, where he remains today.

Last Saturday, we had the wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the Autumn Festival, a special occasion shared with students from SDSU, as well as our cherished friends, families, and students from Riverview Academy. The festivities were filled with engaging activities that allowed everyone to immerse themselves in Chinese culture.
To kick off the celebration, we provided hands-on guidance on the intricate art of Chinese paper cutting, as well as the delightful process of crafting mooncakes. It was a true joy to witness students and their families create their own paper-cut designs and delicious mooncakes side by side with our dedicated CCC instructors.
Furthermore, our eager students delved into the world of Chinese calligraphy, mastering the art of writing Chinese characters using the traditional maobi (毛笔). They successfully crafted short phrases and brought them to life on paper. The culmination of this experience was an awe-inspiring performance entirely in Chinese by our talented students from Riverview Academy.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us in celebrating the Autumn Festival. Your participation made the event truly special. 中秋节快乐! (Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!)

Jahja is an internationally renowned conductor with an exceptional reputation for musical integrity, intensity and expressivity.
Mr. Ling was born to a Chinese family in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is now a U.S. citizen. he is the first and only conductor of Chinese descent, who has held a music director position with a major orchestra in the United States. Ling was educated in Juilliard and Yale, and has conducted major symphony orchestras in North America including Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and San Francisco.

Jon Wai-Keung Lowe will join us for The Chinese American Experience & Beyond. Through his online lecture, Jon will break down the conventions of staging, visual cues, musical instruments, and rap (!) that make this vibrant art form a UNESCO-recognized Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage.

Farewell my concubine, the only Chinese language film to ever win the Cannes Palme d'Or, is one of the central works of the Fifth Generation movement, a movement which finally brought Chinese film directors to world attention.
An adaptation of the novel by Lilian Lee, the film explores the effect of China's political turmoil during the mid-20th century on the lives of individuals, families and groups. Spanning 53 years, the film is two films at once, a tale of the friendship of two men against the historical backdrop of a country in upheaval.
